Launceston College Has Members in the Cabinet
On Saturday the 4th of March, Katie Robinson and Amelia Martin made their way to Liskeard to take part in the East Cornwall Member of Youth Parliament meeting. Amelia had recently applied and campaigned to become the new Member of Youth Parliament against two other students from other areas of East Cornwall. After over 4000 votes were cast for the new MYP and Deputy MYP, and Saturday was the day that the results were shared with the students. Unfortunately Amelia did not receive either of the positions, but, along with fellow Launceston student Katie, was fortunate enough to take a place on the Cabinet behind the East Cornwall group.
As well as finding out the results, the pair took part in activities to get to know their other cabinet members and discussed different things that will be on their agenda at the next meeting. Overall, it was a very successful day with both students feeling positive about their opportunities to come with their positions in the cabinet.
After campaigning for the east Cornwall MYP, I was disappointed to not have received the position. However it is great to still be a part of the cabinet which sits behind the MYP and DMYP. In the next meeting, we will be voting on a chair for the cabinet- a role which I will stand for to help lead the meetings. The experience has been really interesting and I have gained a lot of knowledge to do with the youths opinions and roles in Cornwall.
Thank you to everyone for voting, and Congratulations to Luke and Georgina.
